One youth was killed and two others were injured when two groups clashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj this afternoon during Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Tiranga yatra on the occasion of Republic Day.

According to police, some unidentified people hurled stones at a motorcycle rally taken out by volunteers of VHP and ABVP on the Mathura-Bareilly highway. They added that some people were injured in the incident and a number of vehicles damaged.

The situation is, however, under control, Additional DG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said.

“It seems the incident was not pre-planned, but was a spontaneous one. The district magistrate, superintendent of police, and Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel are reaching the spot," Kumar said.

"The trouble makers are being identified, and stringent action will be initiated against them. The district administration has been able to control the situation so far, but additional forces will be called to ensure that the situation does not worsen," he added.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the trouble-hit area.

"One person died during arson, firing and stone pelting, while two others sustained injuries today. The deceased has been identified as Chandan (16). Curfew has been imposed in the city," District Magistrate RP Singh said.

Reacting on the incident, CM Yogi Adityanath has appealed to maintain peace and promises strict action against the culprits.
