In another shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman allegedly drowned her six-month-old son in a water tank, said police.
According to police, she allegedly committed the crime in deep sleep in the wee hours on Sunday.
The woman took her six-month-old baby, Shiva, to the second floor of their three-storeyed house and drowned him in the water tank before resuming her sleep on the first floor, police added.
The woman is identified as Deepika Gujjar and lives Saraswati Colony in Kota with her husband, a school teacher and her mother-in-law. She has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC.
The incident came to light when her husband Sitaram Gujjar, found the boy missing around 1.30 am on the intervening night. The accused mother joined her husband and mother-in-law, Kelabai in search for the child without disclosing the crime, police said.
Her mother-in-law found the baby in the water tank. "The matter reached the police on Sunday afternoon but the woman continued misleading them till Monday afternoon. Later, she broke down during questioning and confessed to the crime", said Harendra Singh, SHO of the Borekheda police station.
The accused claimed that she "unknowingly" took the baby to the water tank and drowned him in it.
The motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained. Police claimed that there was no other member present to have committed the crime except the woman as her husband and mother-in-law were sleeping on the first floor.
Police also said that the woman seemed to be mentally stable. It is also reported that two of her children had died of natural causes earlier.
