Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another shocking incident of crime against women in the country, a 30-year-old Dalit woman in Ernakulam district of Kerala was brutally raped and murdered at her residence.
According to police, the woman was found dead in a pool of blood at 8pm on April 28 by her mother when she reached home after her daily menial job.
The autopsy report, police said, revealed that the victim was beaten ruthlessly and was stabbed and kicked in the stomach. Her intestines were pulled out with a sharp instrument and she also had a head injury. At least 30 injuries were found on her body.
“She received several stab wounds. We suspect the deep wound on her head might have turned fatal,” a senior police officer of Permubavoor near Kochi said.
Following an angry protest by the local residents, who accused the authorities of ignoring the case due to Assembly poll rush, state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has now asked the Kochi range inspector general to constitute a special investigation team to probe the case.
“We have formed a SIT and investigation is on. Since the area is heavily populated by inter-state workers the probe team is exploring all possibilities,” the Minister said.
The incident might become a factor in the assembly polls on May 16 where the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) is locked in a tough battle with the Left Democratic Front.
