Counting of votes for the Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency is about to end, and BJD candidate Anubhav Mohanty is set to register a win over his nearest rival Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda.
Mohanty is leading on the seat with 3,198 votes against Panda.
The Kendrapara is one of the 21 constituencies of Odisha. The constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 29.
Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested against Dharanidhar Nayak of the Congress and Anubhav Mohanty of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The Lok Sabha constituency of Kendrapara consists of seven Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Kendrapara is known as an anti-Congress bastion. The last time a Congress candidate won the seat was way back in 1952.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Baijayant Panda of the BJD triumphed over Dharanidhar Nayak of the Congress by a margin of 2,09,108 or 18.3 per cent.
The voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 73.14 per cent.
The seven phases of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 covered a total of 543 constituencies. Voting in the first phase was conducted on April 11.
