Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir this morning. The encounter began early Wednesday morning after a ganbattle began between the militants, holed up inside a house in Pazalpora village of the area, and the security personnel who had cordoned off the area.
The militants have been identified as Basit Ahmad Mir, a resident of Indergam Pattan, and Gulzar Ahmad, a resident of Brat Sopore. An Army official said two weapons were seized.
Following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation last night.
The operation was resumed this morning and the gunfight started after the trapped militants opened fire on the forces, which was responded to, he said.
