The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has badly mauled the Congress and JDS in Karnatana and has pulled off a spectacular electoral feat, winning 22 Lok Sabha seats and leading in three more, leaving one each to be shared by the coalition partners and an Independent.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has badly mauled the Congress and JDS in Karnatana and has pulled off a spectacular electoral feat, winning 22 Lok Sabha seats and leading in three more, leaving one each to be shared by the coalition partners and an Independent.

A complete sweep as this has stunned the BJP itself which was expecting a maximum of 22 seats and caused tremors within the ruling coalition, which has been facing existential crisis right from the day it formed the government a year ago.

Counting of votes in 25 Lok Sabha constituencies began on Thursday morning.

    BJP wins 23, leading on 2

    Results for 25 of the 28 seats have been declared in Karnataka. While BJP has won 23, Congress and Janata Dal have won one each. BJP is leading on two of the three seats remaining, while an independent candidate might sweep the other.

    Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy congrats Modi, BJP

     Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with absolute majority.

    "This is an unexpected result for me personally. But I congratulate Modi and BJP for the absolute mandate they got from the people," tweeted Kumaraswamy in Kannada, hours after the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and its ally Congress suffered a humiliating defeat in the southern state where the saffron party won 25 of the 28 parliamentary seats.
