A 35-year-old IAS officer was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the roadside in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area this morning.

Anurag Tiwari, a 2007-batch Karnataka cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who hails from Bahraich, was staying at the VIP guest house at Mira Bai Marg for the last two days. His body was found near the guest house.

AK Shahi, Inspector of Hazratganj police station, said some passers-by informed the police after spotting him lying on the road.

He said the victim’s identity was ascertained by an identity card recovered from his belongings.

The inspector said a preliminary examination confirmed an injury on his chin while no other injury is visible.

According to a Times of India report, LDA vice chairman and Tiwari’s batchmate P N Singh had booked the room in his name and was with him last night.

While Singh went to play badminton around 6am at a Gomtinagar stadium, Tiwari stepped out for a morning walk. He had barely covered a distance of 300 metre from his room when he collapsed on the road.

The identity card found from his body shows that he died on his birthday -- May 17.

Police said that Tiwari’s death was unnatural but they were waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of his death.
