Kanpur City SP Surendra Kumar, who consumed poisonous substance, dies; CM Adityanath expresses grief

Kanpur City SP Surendra Kumar, who consumed poisonous substance, dies

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today expressed grief at the demise of 30-year-old IPS officer Surendra Kumar Das today. The officer had been battling for his life in a Kanpur hospital after consuming some poisonous substance on Wednesday. The 30-year-old IPS officer belonged to 2014 batch and was serving as Kanpur City SP.

"He passed away at 12:19 pm due to celphos poisoning. We tried our best to revive him but we could not save him," Dr Rajesh Agrawal, CMO of Regency Hospital, where Das was being treated told ANI.

An official spokesperson confirmed the news and said that the CM has expressed 'deepest condolence to the family'. 

"He died during treatment Sunday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deepest condolence to the family members of the young IPS officer on his demise," an official spokesman said in Lucknow.

State Director General of Police (DGP), OP Singh had visited the hospital on Saturday.

Senior police officers including DGP, ADG (Law and Order) and others have expressed grief over the demise of the officer.
