Justice Ranjan Gogoi was on Wednesday sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India.
Justice Goggoi was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
After taking the oath, Justice Gogoi said "parameters" will be worked out for urgent mentioning and hearing of cases.
He also said that no urgent mentioning of cases will be allowed till certain parameters are fixed for it.
"We will work out the parameters then we will see as to how mentioning will be done," Justice Gogoi said.
"If somebody is going to be hanged tomorrow, then we can understand (urgency)", he added.

Chief Justice Gogoi, 64, is the first judge from the northeast to attain the highest office of the Supreme Court.
He will be in office for 13 months and 15 days -- till November 17, 2019.
