Jaipur: Tanmaya Shekhawat, a student who secured 11th position in the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), has been gifted a shining BMW sedan by a coaching institute in Rajasathan.
Impressed by Tanmay’s excellent performance, a coaching institute in Rajasthan’s Sikar ditrict where he studied, has gifted him the luxury vehicle which is worth Rs 27.5 lakhs, as per Hindustan Times report.
“The director (of the institute) had announced that whoever achieves a rank under 20 in the IIT-JEE Advanced, will get his BMW. He kept his promise,” Tanmaya tols Hindustan Times.
The vehicle which is worth Rs 27.5 lakhs was originally bought by Dr RL Poonia, the director of Samarpan coaching institute, two years ago.
Though it is common to see students getting rewarded by coaching institutes to recognise their performance, this is perhaps the first time that an institute has gifted such an expensive vehicle to a candidate.
Sikar, which is about 115 km from Jaipur and is known for preserving traditional Rajasthani culture with its imposing havelis and mansions, now seems to be competing with Kota, which is known as the coaching capital of India.
Over the past few years, several coaching institutes have opened up in Sikar. Tanmaya was enrolled with Samarpan coaching institute for the past two years.
“For the first time someone in the district has scored a rank under 100 in IIT-JEE Advanced. Nearly 1 lakh students appeared for the exams from Kota, which is the hub of coaching institutes in India, but our student has beaten them all,” said Dr Poonia.
Tanmaya, who wants to study computer science in IIT Bombay, has worked really hard to achieve the goal.
His father Rajeshwar Singh Shekhawat, a Biology teacher in a government school, told that Tanmaya stayed in a kitchen of a house as he did not want to share a room and single rooms were not easy to find.
