Chandigarh: The Haryana government said on Sunday that it has settled claims of 2,035 people who had suffered damage to property and material during last month's violence during the Jat agitation for reservation.

"The state government has paid about Rs.25 crore to 2,035 claimants till March 25. Of these, 1,768 claimants have been paid in full," said an official spokesman.

"The Haryana government has released the final payment for all compensation claims up to Rs.20 lakh in urban areas to those persons whose properties were damaged in the recent agitation. Payment for the remaining claims would soon be made," he said.

With the efforts of the Haryana government, insurance companies have so far made final settlements of claims amounting to about Rs.6 crore to the people whose insured properties were damaged, he added.

"Special teams have been constituted at the district level for the assessment and settlement of the claim cases of Rs.1 crore and above," the spokesman said.

Industry body Assocham had pegged losses due to violence during the agitation at around Rs 20,000 crore in the state.

A total of 30 people died and 320 people were injured, including 72 personnel belonging to police and other security forces, during the agitation that affected over 10 districts in south and central Haryana.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced last week that a judicial enquiry would be got conducted "to completely unearth the entire conspiracy" behind violence during the Jat agitation.
