Six policemen, including an Station House Officer (SHO), were martyred after terrorists ambushed a police party in Achabal town in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday. Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants and two civilians were also killed in the subsequent protests.
The SHO identified as Sub Inspector Feroz, a resident of Pulwama, fell victim to indiscriminate firing from terrorists, senior police officials said.
Besides the fatalities, some other policemen sustained serious bullet injuries and were rushed to nearby hospital, officials said.
The police said that the terrorists disfigured the faces of martyred policemen before walking away with their weapons.

The other martyred include a driver and four other policemen who were on a routine round in their jeep, he said.
Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba is believed to be behind the attack, a senior police official said, adding they wanted to take revenge of the Arwani encounter in which their local commander Junaid Mattoo is believed to have died.
The encounter at Arwani in Bijbehara area broke out this morning and all the three militants are believed to be dead. No bodies have been recovered so far.
Army has been moved out and was combing the area, officials said.
The incident was the latest in a series of attacks by terrorists on security forces across Kashmir.
13 jawans were injured and four service rifles were looted when terrorists carried out six attacks in the span of four hours in various districts of Kashmir on Tuesday.
Earlier on Friday, two militants, including commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba Juanid Mattoo, were reportedly killed in a gunfight with security forces in neighbouring Kulgam district.
Further details are awaited.
