A terrorist was gunned down by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Monday.
Encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists Sunday late evening. Security forces then launched a cordon and search operation in the forest area of Handwara.
The search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired upon the security forces, a police official said.
