Jammu and Kashmir: Stone pelters attack school bus, Class II student suffers head injury

Stone-pelters in Jammu and Kashmir targeted a school bus in Kanipora village in Shopian on Wednesday, leaving a Class II student with a head injury.

A group of miscreants pelted stones on the bus of Rainbow High School at Zavoora in Shopian, resulting in head injury to a class 2 student, identified as Rehan Gorsai, a police official said.

He said the injured student has been rushed to SKIMS Hospital here.

“My son has been injured in stone pelting, this is against humanity. This could have been anyone's child,” said the father of the student who suffered a head injury to news agency ANI.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the incident.

"Shocked & angered to hear of the attack on a school bus in Shopian. The perpetrators of this senseless & cowardly act will be brought to justice," tweeted Mufti.

"How does pelting stones on school children or tourist buses help advance the agenda of these stone pelters? These attacks deserve our unequivocal condemnation & this tweet is mine," tweeted Abdullah.

Jammu and Kashmir DGP S P Vaid termed the act as “complete madness” by stone pelters, and said that the “criminals will face the law”.

An FIR has been filed against those who stoned the bus.

Reacting to the incident, Shailendra Kumar, SSP Shopian, said, “Few miscreants gheraoed the school bus and hurled stones at it, one student injured. The area has been sanitised, search for stone pelters is underway and they will be arrested soon”.

The incident comes days after two buses carrying tourists from Indonesia were pelted with stones near Dal Lake.

Two women tourists from Abu Dhabi also suffered head injuries after being hit by stones thrown at their cab near the airport.
