A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable, who was kidnapped by terrorists on Thursday (July 5), has been killed. The constable's body was found with bullet injuries at Kulgam's Pariwan. He was shot in the head. Constable Javaid Ahmad Dar was reportedly kidnapped by three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Shopian while he was on his way to a local chemist.

The abduction and murder is second such case involving a security personnel in the Valley in last one month. In June, Aurangzeb, a 44 Rashtriya Rifles jawan, was kidnapped in Pulwama by terrorists while he was on his way home to celebrate Eid. A day later his bullet-ridden body was found on June 14 at Gussu village.

The kidnapping of constable Javaid Ahmad Dar took place on the day when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was in Srinagar to review the security situation in the state at a meeting.  Rajnath Singh said that peace and stability could be brought to the state through an honest, effective and efficient administration.

Singh said this after reviewing the security situation in the state at a high-level meeting attended by Governor N N Vohra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and top civil and police officials in Srinagar.

"The dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir will be realised when there is peace and normalcy in the state. It is our firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state," a statement quoted him as saying.

The Centre had announced one-month ceasefire in anti-terror cordon and search operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the month of Ramzan. However, the Valley witnessed a spurt in terror incidents during this period.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had even pulled out support from PDP-led Mehbooba Mufti government over the issue of law and order in Jammu and Kashmir last month.
