Jammu and Kashmir: 4 terrorists gunned down by security forces in Pulwama, search operation underway

The gunfight broke out in the early morning hours after security forces received inputs of presence of militants in the area. Meanwhile, a search operation is underway to trace other presence of other militants in the region.

At least four terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Rajpora area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday. 

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Hanjan area Saturday morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, an Army official said.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras opened fire at the search party, who retaliated. 

Four militants were killed in the gunfight. Weapons and other warlike stores were found at the encounter site, the official said.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained, he said.  The search and sanitisation operation is underway.

Earlier on Friday, one militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Awantipora area. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Banderpora-Rinzipora area of Awantipora on Friday morning following information about the presence of militants there. Later the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired on the search party of the forces, who retaliated.

In the ensuing gunfight, one militant was killed. he slain militant was identified as Ishfaq Yousuf Wani, a resident of Qoil area of Pulwama in south Kashmir.
