Dismissing speculations that the upcoming municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be deferred, state Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam on Wednesday said that these polls will be held as per schedule.
The J&K Chief Secretary’s remarks came amid reports that the civic and Panchayat polls may not be held as per schedule in view of two leading political parties of the state, National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deciding to boycott these elections.
Subrahmanyam made these remarks while talking to media persons in Srinagar.
"Municipal and Panchayat polls will be held as per schedule,” B.V.R. Subrahmanyam said.
The regional National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already announced boycott of these polls.
The Congress has also said that currently, the ground situation in the Valley is not conducive for holding these polls.
