Six terrorists killed in Anantnag encounter

Six terrorists were killed in an encounter which broke out with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday. The security forces also recovered arms and ammunition. The encounter was reported from Sekipora area of Bijbehara in the district. The terrorists were initially reported to be trapped.

The security forces began a search operation in the area upon receiving a tip-off.

"As the security forces closed in on the hiding militants, they fired triggering the ongoing gunfight," police said.

Mobile internet services in Anantnag have been suspended by the authorities as a precautionary measure, as the encounter continues.

Earlier on Tuesday, Hurriyat leader Hafizullah Mir was shot and killed in south Kashmir’s Achabal area.

The separatist leader was shot by unidentified miscreants and was shifted to a hospital in a critical condition, where he had succumbed to his injuries.
