In a case of instant triple talaq, a man pronounced talaq thrice to his wife for being obese in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh. The case has come after the Narendra Modi government passed an ordinance making instant triple talaq a punishable offence with imprisonment upto three years.
A case has been registered under the newly promulgated Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance 2018 against Dahod (Gujarat) resident Arif Hussain Diwan and his mother Hussain Bano at Meghnagar police station on Wednesday. While Arif has been arrested, mother Hussain Bano is absconding.
According to police station in-charge, the couple had been married for 10 years and they have two children.
According to reports, the husband tortured his wife right since marriage for being obese. Unable to tolerate the regular torture and agony, the wife came to her brother's home in Meghnagar. The man along with his mother reached there and abused the woman verbally and physically. They also demanded dowry from the woman's family. Having their demand been rejected, the husband pronounced talaq thrice.
The woman reached the police station and filed a case against her husband his mother. The police have registered case under Sections 323, 498A, 506 and 34 of IPC.
