Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba has said that he expects INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, to be inducted by 2020.
INS Vikrant is presently under construction at the Kochi shipyard.
“We are hopeful she will start trials in 2019 and we will take delivery in 2020,” Admiral Lanba told media persons on the sidelines of a FICCI event in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Admiral Lanba further said that the construction of INC Vikrant is moving ahead as per the timeline.
The Navy chief also added that India’s first indigenous conventional submarine, INS Kalvari, is likely to be be commissioned in July or August this year.
INS Kalvari is the first of six Scorpene-class submarines being built at the Mazgaon Docks in collaboration with DCNS of France under project 75. It is out for sea trials since last year.
The second submarine INS Khanderi was launched on January 12 this year and is likely to undergo rigorous tests till the end of the year.
