Indian Air Force Day 2018: 'Grateful nation salutes valorous air warriors for safeguarding skies', President, PM hail IAF on 86th anniversary

The parade will be followed by an air display and acrobatics by the Air Force's various aircraft, including Jaguar, Bison, MiG-29, Mirage-2000 and SU-30 MKI fighter jets and Rudra helicoptors.

The celebrations of  86th anniversary Indian Air Force are currently underway at the Air Force Station at Hindon in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. 

The celebrations of  86th anniversary Indian Air Force are currently underway at the Air Force Station at Hindon in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. 

The parade will be followed by a breath taking display by the Air Warrior Drill Team, wherein the team will showcase their weapon handling skills and carry out diverse manoeuvers with their rifles.  This will be followed by a scintillating air display by wide range of IAF aircraft including Vintage flight.

The air display will commence with flag bearing sky divers of famous Akash Ganga Team, who will jump from an An-32 aircraft.  Flypast will comprise of Mi-17 V5 and Rudra helicopters, Dornier, C-130J and C-17 transport aircraft, Jaguar, Bison, MiG-29, Mirage-2000 and SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft.  Dakota, Tiger Moth and Harvard of the IAF Vintage flight will also participate in the flypast. 

Post flypast, Light Combat Aircraft will carry out aerobatic display in front of the audience. The Ambassadors of Indian Air Force, Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team, comprising on nine Hawk 132 aircraft and the Helicopter aerobatics team, Sarang will enthrall the audience with breath taking formation aerobatics display.  

Earlier on Sunday, the defence ministry in its statement said that the celebrations will highlight the untiring efforts and supreme sacrifices made by its personnel.

HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

11:50 AM: The official twitter handle of the Kerala Chief Minister today expressed its gratefulness to the Indian Air Force for its relentless efforts to help the state that was ravaged by flood in August this year. The Kerala flood rescue operation was the largest disaster relief exercise the Air Force has ever conducted, with its powerful aircraft dropping a total of 2.47 lakh kg of relief material.

10:10 AM: Air Force Day celebrations underway in Ghaziabad in full swing.

09:10 AM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated IAF on the 86th anniversary. "A grateful nation salutes our valorous air warriors and their families on Air Force Day. They keep our skies safe and are at the forefront of serving humanity in times of disasters. Proud of the Indian Air Force!", he tweeted.

08:38 AM: Union ministers Suresh Prabhu and Piyush Goyal also took to Twitter to wish the nation on Indian Air Force Day. Both, Prabhu and Goyal mentioned the Indian Air Force's prowess to keep the skies safe.

08:35 AM: BJP chief Amit Shah extended his greetings on the 86th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. "Their bravery and commitment to serve the motherland is unparalleled. It is because of their dedication and courage that we are among the top air force in the world," he tweeted.

08:30 AM: President Ram Nath Kovind today congratulated the Indian Air Force on its 86th anniversary. He tweeted, "On Air Force Day, we proudly honour our air warriors, veterans, and families of the Indian Air Force. They safeguard our skies with courage and commitment."

08:28 AM: The Indian Air Force is holding a grand parade-cum-investiture ceremony at the Air Force Station at Hindon in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad to mark its 86th anniversary.

The Indian Air Force was born in 1932 as the Royal Indian Air Force under then British rule. The name was changed to Indian Air Force in 1950.
