Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the first assembly of International Solar Alliance at Vigyan Bhavan here in the national capital and said the country will generate 40 per cent of electricity using non-fossil fuel-based resources by 2030.
Commenting about the importance of solar energy he said the role OPEC is playing today, will be played by International Solar Alliance in time to come.
“I believe the role OPEC is playing today, will be played by International Solar Alliance in time to come as far as the world's energy requirement is concerned. Role being played by oil wells today will one day be played by sun rays,” PM Modi said.
“To fulfill the goals of the Paris Agreement, we have started working on the action plan for the deployment of renewable energy. We have decided to generate 40% of our electricity using non-fossil fuel-based resources by 2030,” he further said.
During the same event, PM Modi also stressed on power storage.
Power storage along with power generation is important and the country is working on National Energy Storage Mission, PM said.
Under it, the government is focusing on policy support to enhance demand creation, indigenous manufacturing, innovation and energy storage, Modi elaborated.
Besides solar and wind energy, his government is also working on B3 - Biomass, Biofuel, Bioenergy, he informed.
