India is glad to get SCO membership, expects fruitful outcomes during Tashkent meet: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India is glad to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and pointed out that the country looks forward to fruitful outcomes during Tashkent meet.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India is glad to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and pointed out that the country looks forward to fruitful outcomes during Tashkent meet.

"India is glad to be a member of the SCO and looks forward to fruitful outcomes particularly in the field of economic cooperation through SCO, " PM Modi said in a statement prior to his departure to Uzbekistan to attend the SCO summit.

 
He further said that India attaches great importance to ties with Central Asia and is interested in expanding people-to-people ties with the region.

"India attaches great importance to ties with Central Asia and always seeks to expand economic and people-to-people ties with the region," he added.

The SCO summit is being held in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent from June 23-24.

PM Modi is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders during the SCO meet.

During his meeting with President Xi Jinping, PM Modi is expected to raise the issue of China’s opposition to India’s entry into Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
