IT officials raid residence of Praveen Kakkar
The officials of the Income Tax department from Delhi are conducting raids at 50 locations, including at the residence of Praveen Kakkar in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. The raids are underway at Kakkar's Vijaynagar residence.
According to the sources of the Income Tax department, raids are also underway at Ratul Puri, Amira Group and Moser Bayor at places including Bhopal, Indore, Goa along with 35 other locations in Delhi.
More than 300 Income Tax officials, along with CRPF force are carrying the raids, sources said, adding documents seized during the searches were being scrutinised in detail.
A former Madhya Pradesh police officer, Praveen Kakkar was appointed OSD to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath after the Congress-led government came to power in the state last year.
He had earlier served as OSD to former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria during the UPA regime. Kakkad's family is associated with a number of businesses, including hospitality.
According to news agency ANI, the raids began early Sunday, at nearly 3 AM.
