Landslides and monsoon floods caused by incessant rainfalls have claimed hundreds of lives across the country, while rendering thousands homeless. The third wave of floods in Assam within a month have ravaged the state and swallowed the livelihoods of over 20 lakh people, with the year’s death toll going up to 99.
The condition is no better in Bihar where nearly two million people have been affected by the floods, including thousands who have been forced to evacuate from their homes.
Deaths have also been reported in Meghalaya and West Bengal, while nearly 600 tourists, including 200 Indians, have been stranded in central Nepal's popular tourist district Chitwan due to floods triggered by heavy rains that have claimed 49 lives so far.
