New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has asserted that the Indian Army is ready to increase force level in Kashmir in order to tackle the situation.
According to a report published in The Hindu, Parrikar made this remark during a high-level meeting that was convened on Tuesday to apprise the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the existing ground situation in the Kashmir valley.
The report says that the PM was informed that over 100 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured in stone-pelting by mobs in the state.
“The CRPF personnel have been cautioned not to be provoked easily and practice absolute restraint. The men have been asked not to open fire when they face a few rounds of stone-pelting,” the newspaper quoted a senior government official as saying.
The issue of Amarnath pilgrims was also discussed in the meeting and security forces were asked to ensure the safety of all the pilgrims besides enhancing vigil along the border to check fresjh attempts of infiltration.
The official further said that according to intelligence inputs available, Pakistan-supported groups would try to incite violence in the Valley on 13th July, which is commemorated as Martyrs Day in Kashmir as well as during Friday’s Jumme ki namaaz.
