Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls is in full swing and early trends show sitting MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, will most likely retain his seat.
According to ECI, the AIMIM chief is leading with over 2,60,884 votes from his Hyderabad seat. He is fighting against BJP's Dr Bhagavanth Rao.
Since 1989, Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency has been the bastion of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Hyderabad went to polls on April 11 and recorded 44.75 per cent voter turnout.
In 2014, Asaduddin Owaisi beat Dr Bhagavanth Rao of BJP with 52.90 per cent vote share.
After winning the 1984 parliamentary election from Hyderabad seat as an independent candidate, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi had served as the Member of Parliament from the seat for consecutive six Lok Sabha elections.
BJP's Venkaiah Naidu had once contested in Hyderabad constituency in 1996, but lost to Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi by 73,273 votes.
Post his retirement in 2004, his son Asaduddin Owaisi was elected as the MP; he has been serving the seat for consecutively three times now.
Owaisi's party is an ally of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Telangana.
