Love has no limits but one could never imagine of going to the extent that 26-year-old Non Resident Indian Ravneet Kaur did to marry her lover.
According to a Times of India report, Ravneet was arrested by the special organised group (SOG) wing of Kota on Thursday for being part of a sex racket. She was nabbed on charges of extortion and blackmailing at least six people. Ravneet was part of the honeytrap racket busted in the city on December 24.
The SOG team arrested two others in connection with the case, but the story of Ravneet Kaur is no less than a film script.
“In 2008, she came to her native village in Punjab and did a one-year certificate course in investment management. She came to Gurgaon in 2009 and stayed with the family of her friend. In 2012, she met a man, identified as Rohit Sharma, who was pursuing a MBA course from a private university where she was doing her BBA. They both fell in love,” Times of India quoted Karan Sharma, additional superintendent of police, SOG, as saying.
After completing their studies, Ravneet wanted to marry Rohit. But the boy’s family was against the relationship as both of them were jobless.
During the interrogation, Ravneet confessed that the rejection by Rohit’s mother forced her to look for easy money.
Ravneet said that she met Akshat Sharma, the kingpin of the sex racket, in 2013, who offered her a job at Rs 12,000 a month. After joining the racket, she also met other gang members.
“The gang realized that the girl was desperate to earn money by hook or crook. In 2014, they sent her to a leading builder in the city as a client. Later, the gang blackmailed the builder for Rs 1.20 crore with alleged rape. This was her first deal for which she received Rs 30 lakh,” said Karan Sharma.
After that, the gang continued to hunt other soft targets, ranging from doctors and engineers to builders, among others.
Sharma said that till February 2016, when she married Rohit, she had earned over Rs 1 crore and had blackmailed at least six men.
“Following her marriage, she wanted to lead a normal life and, more importantly, her husband was unaware of what she had done,” he said.
She spent the money lavishly on Rohit by buying him expensive gifts. “She claimed that she wanted to prove to the boy's family that she can earn well,” added Sharma.
According to the report, Ravneet had a miscarriage almost a fortnight before her arrest on Thursday. Moreover, despite the fact that she was arrested on charges of blackmail and extortion, her husband was seen bringing her medicines and clothes at the SOG headquarters.
