A court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of Honeypreet, the 'adopted' daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim, in the Panchkula violence case.

Honeypreet, who has been charged of planning and inciting the violence in Panchkula and other neighbouring states in August last year, had filed a bail petition in Panchkula court claiming she had no role in violence in last year's violence.

Honeypreet, in her petition, said that she has spent 245 days behind bars without committing any crime. Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, pleaded that court that she should be granted bail as she was a woman.

Honeypreet was arrested on October 3 after remaining fugitive for 38 days after the August 25, 2017 violence. She has been lodged in jail since October 23.

Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of over Rs 30 lakh for raping two of his disciples inside the Dera's sprawling ashram in Sirsa, Haryana.

His rape conviction led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana and other neighbouring states like Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan. Over 35 were killed and more than 200 injured in the violence.
