New Delhi: An ailing 54-year-old patient with heart failure in Delhi received a gift of life after doctors successfully transplanted a heart from a 22-year-old from Rajasthan, thanks to green corridor.
According to a report, a heart of 22-year old road accident victim who was declared brain dead was harvested and transported from Jaipur to Delhi via the green corridor.
The 241-km distance from Jaipur to Delhi was covered in 56 minutes. A green corridor was created from the airport to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and the distance of 18.2 kms was covered in 16 minutes.
The condition of patient was critical so he had to be admitted to a hospital several times due to complications from the heart failure, according to reports.
The doctors told him that a heart transplant was his only option.
The patient, was from Gorakhpur, and was put on the transplant list of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute two months ago. He continued waiting in the city for a heart that would match is blood group and other specifications.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic (southern range) Harendra Singh told media, the heart was kept in a special box and received at terminal 1-D of the airport and rushed through the green corridor to Fortis Escorts hospital in New Friends Colony.
