In yet another case of crime against women, a Haryanvi folk singer was found dead on Thursday with her throat slit in Rohtak's Baniyani, which also happens to be Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's native village.

The 40-year-old woman, identified as Mamta Sharma, went missing on January 14 after she left her house with her associate Mohit Kumar to attend an event in Gohana. Sharma's son Bharat claimed that Mohit later called up to inform that Mamta switched cars and had gone with some people in another car.

The folk singer's family blamed the police for not taking any action on their complaint after she went missing on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police has registered a case of murder against unidentified persons and the body has been sent to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, for postmortem.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had earlier this week urged the opposition parties to not 'politicize' rapes, amid brewing controversy over recently reported crime cases questioning the safety and security of women in the state.

"The incidents that took place over the last few days are condemnable. We will take strict actions in these cases. I appeal all the opposition parties not to do politics on such cases", Khattar had said.

This case comes two months after another folk singer in the state, Harshita Dahiya, was shot dead.

At least seven cases of rape have been reported in the last six days in Haryana, raising questions on the prevailing law and order of the state.
