Gujarat: Infant dies after falling into 200-ft deep bore well, body recovered after 12 hours of rescue ops

An infant, who had fallen into a 200-feet deep bore well on Monday evening, has died. The rescue workers recovered the body of the one and a half-year-old child after 12 hours of rescue operations.

The incident, which took place in Ilol village in Gujarat's Sabarkantha district, has once again raised concerns over the high risk open bore wells pose to the safety of young children.

According to locals, in this case, just like most others, the bore well was left unguarded without any cover. The locals said that the bore well was old and out of commission, but no one cared to cover it.

Yesterday evening, the child who was playing near the hole fell into it. He was reportedly stuck at 60-feet in a 200-feet deep hole.

The rescue workers tried to supply him with oxygen through a pipe as they tried to bring him up safely. But unfortunately, he was found dead, with a broken limb.

Earlier in August, a baby girl Sana had fell into a 165-feet deep bore well at her grandparent's house in Bihar's Munger. It took a team of NDRF over 31 hours to rescue her safely. (Read full story here)
