In an effort to educate people and provide the required support for people as part of its campaign to get people switch to cashless transactions, NITI Aayog, in association with Nasscom and telecom operators, has set up a dedicated toll-free helpline number '14444' to promote digital transactions.
“Nasscom, telecom operators, along with NITI Aayog, created a helpline 14444 for addressing all queries on digital payments,” said NITI Ayog.
"The helpline will assist people at the first level to zero in on the option which is most suitable for them, depending on the availability of feature phone, Aadhaar number and bank account of the person," IT body Nasscom President R Chandrashekar had said.
Earlier this month, to educate people on digital transactions, Ministry of Electronics and IT launched free-to-air channel DigiShala which will be available on Doordarshan's DTH platform and 'CashlessIndia' website to educate people about digital transactions.
As per IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, digital payments have increased in the range of 400 to 1,000 per cent since November 8 after the scrapping of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
Meanwhile, a Chief Ministers’ Committee led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which has been formed to boost digital payment system, recommended continuation of the incentives, like waiver of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on card usage and others, beyond December 31 to help citizens to move to digital payments.
