The Ghaziabad district administration on Sunday ordered closure of all schools and colleges from August 5 to 9 in view of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. The district administration officials also urged all the school authorities-both government and privare to postpone the term examinations scheduled during the period.
August 5 is a Sunday and August 9 is a gazetted holiday,” said Additional District Magistrate (city) Himanshu Gautam.
Officials added that traffic diversions will remain in place from August 1-10 for the Kanwar Yatra.
In addition to this, the officials said that all the meat shops have been shut and liquor stores along the Kanwar route will be closed from August 7 till the Kanwar Yatra gets over.
Meanwhile, traffic authorities have advised commuters in the city to take the three crossings- Raj Nagar Extension, Meerut-crossing and Mohan Nagar to travel from Ghaziabad city to trans-Hindon areas as the the number of Kanwariyas and the vehicles accompanying them will increase during the period.
Commuters travelling to Noida via NH-58 to NH-24 Link Road will be able to approach NH-24 but will not be allowed to use the other side of the road while returning from Noida. So, they have been asked to follow the route from Mohan Nagar.
In the wake of the Kanwar Yatra, the district administration has ordered to make all the routes pothole free. The authorities have also installed more than 80 CCTV cameras at 61 points for surveillance. Officials have also set up Kanwar helpline camps at Muradnagar canal, Raj Nagar Extension, the district headquarter and the Meerut crossing.
