The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has submitted its report to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on the complaint made by a BSF jawan that poor quality of food are served to them.
According to reports, the MHA has said that it ‘found no substance’ in the claim of jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav's allegations of bad quality food also diversion of the provisions sent by the government for soldiers guarding the border areas.
"There was no widespread discontent in constabulary over food,” MHA sources said.
The report also mentioned that there was no shortage of rations at any post in paramilitary forces and quality check is being conducted regularly.
Further, Rajnath Singh-led Ministry informed that fresh guidelines for maintaining high quality of food for armed personnel have been issued, besides it has directed the paramilitary forces to take all complaints of jawans seriously.
The PMO had taken suo motu cognizance of reports that poor quality of food and logistics are served to jawans posted along border areas in Jammu and Kashmir and sought a report from the MHA.
Earlier this week, BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav had created a storm by sharing three video clips online. He had claimed that soldiers are served with almost inedible food and are sometimes forced to sleep without a meal. Yadav (40) belongs to the Border Security Force’s (BSF) 29th battalion.
BSF, one of the five Central Armed Police Forces, is the primary Border guarding force of the country. The BSF has 186 battalions with a sanctioned strength of 2.5 lakh personnel including an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units.
It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.
