Former DMK President and five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi passed away in Kauvery Hospial, Chennai on Tuesday. His contributions range from cinema industry to national politics. His demise has surely left an indelible mark on the Indian political system.

Here's how twitter reacted to the demise of the 'Kalaignar'

 "India and particularly Tamil Nadu will miss him immensely. May his soul rest in peace", tweets PM Modi.

"Sad to hear about Mr. M Karunanidhi's demise. Known by the name of "Kalainar" he is going to leave a strong legacy", tweets President Ram Nath Kovind.

"I am grieved by the passing away of Shri M. Karunanidhi, one of the leading and longstanding politicians of our country who left a mark of his own during his long public life of about 80 years including 56 years as Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly", tweets Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

 

"The demise of Kalaignar Karunanidhi is a monumental loss to India’s political landscape. His contribution to the Tamil society and the Tamil Nadu state will always be remembered. My heartfelt tributes to Kalaignar Karunanidhi and condolences to the bereaved family", tweets Rajnath Singh.

"Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight", tweeted Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted that Karunanidhi influenced his State's & the National politics like few others.

"A muti-faceted personality, he was the harbinger of federal politics in India, a saviour of the weakest and deprived, his demise would leave a huge void in Indian politics", writes Randeep Singh Surjewala.

"His passing is a great loss to the nation", tweets former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Prominent journalist and India TV Editor-In-Chief Rajat Sharma condoled the death of M Karunanidhi.

Former India batsmen VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag on Tuesday expressed their grief over the death of DMK stalwart and five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. 

"I convey my deepest condolences to family members and admirers of #Karunanidhi ji on his demise. RIP," Laxman tweeted.

"Condolences to the family and supporters of #Karunanidhi ji. May everyone maintain peace in Tamil Nadu," Sehwag wrote on Twitter.

Sports Minister of India, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took to Twitter to share his condolences.

"Scholar, orator, writer, administrator, revolutionary and a great leader has left us today. This is an irreplaceable loss for Tamil Nadu", tweets popular actress Anushka Shetty.

His contribution to the state of Tamil Nadu, its people has been immense, tweets Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh
