In a tragic accident, five people were killed after fire broke out at a bar-cum-restaurant in the city market area of Bengaluru in the wee hours on Monday, police said.
The fire broke out at Kailash Bar and Restaurant at around 02:30 am. Five employees of the restaurant, who were sleeping inside it, died in the fire.
The bar-cum-restaurant is located in the ground floor of Kumbaara Sangha building.
Fire and smoke was noticed by some people at around 02:30 am, after which two fire tender trucks and one fire rescue vehicle were pressed into action.
The blaze has been put off. The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated, police said.
Those killed in the accident have been identified as Swami (23), Prasad (20), Manjunath (45), Keerthi (24) and Mahesh (35).
RV Dayashankar, owner of the Kailash bar and restaurant, is absconding after a call from the police.
More details are awaited.
The incident comes close to the heels of the fire accident in Mumbai's Kamala Mills Compound on December 29, in which 14 people were killed and 19 injured.
