Encounter underway in Kupwara
Security forces killed a terrorist in an encounter in Trehgam area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Search operation in the area is continuing till the reports were last received. In a separate incident, an Army jawan was injured when terrorists lobbed grenade at a patrolling party in Shopian's Ahgam village. Reports of exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces were also received.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation following inputs of presence of a few terrorists in Shopian. The combing operation was underway.
The Valley is under high alert as terror threat looms large over the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The government had recently decided against continuing the Ramzan ceasefire against terrorists. Intelligence reports had indicated that terror groups may try to target the annual pilgrimage.
