Amid heightened vigil across Indo-Pak border, the Border Security Force (BSF) today seized an empty Pakistani boat from Ravi River in Gurdaspur.

“We have captured a Pakistani boat which had washed away to this side in River Ravi along the International Border (IB) in Pathankot sector,” a senior BSF officer said.

The boat was empty, the officer added.

The boat was probably washed away due to rising water level in River Ravi in Pathankot sector, he said.

“There was excessive water flow because of which the boat drifted on our side. The boat has accidentally drifted to our side, I don't think there is any problem with the boat,” the officer said.

The seizure comes at a time when there is heightened vigil due to increasing tension between India and Pakistan.

The seizure comes two days after a Pakistani boat with nine crew members was apprehended off the Gujarat coast by the Indian Coast Guard on October 2.

Yesterday, firing was reported at a BSF post along the international border with Pakistan in Gurdaspur. The BSF troopers successfully repulsed an intrusion bid by 8-10 people in the counter offensive at Chakri border out post (BoP).

Tension has been escalated between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control (LoC) to destroy terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Terrorists, suspected to be from Pakistan, had attacked the frontier Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot town of Punjab on January 2 this year, leaving seven security personnel dead. The Pathankot attack was preceded by a terror attack by Pakistani terrorists in Dinanagar town of Gurdaspur district on July 27 last year.
