In a major haul of narcotics, Maharashtra police on Wednesday said they have seized drugs worth around Rs 40 crore from a high-end car at Talasari in Palghar. A senior official said the narcotics were seized from the car on Tuesday evening.

Superintendent of Police Manjunath Shinge told reporters that the car was parked at a farm house Talasari, Palghar.

Shinge said the seized narcotics include 5.250 kg of high grade heroin, valued at Rs 26 crore in the international market, around 25 kg high grade Isosafrole worth Rs 10 crore, and around 10 kg high grade ketamine worth Rs 3.50 crore. Isosafrole, a chemical substance, is used to manufacture the drug MDMA.

On September 27, the district police arrested three persons from Manickpur of Vasai including a Nigerian, and seized over 2 kg ephedrine worth Rs 21.70 lakh, the official said.

A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 was registered against the trio. They were produced in a local court which remanded them into police custody till October 7, the SP said.

It was during the interrogation that the trio revealed that the narcotics were stored in a car at a farm house in Talasari, he said.
