With Bengaluru molestation case gaining national media attention, a new video has emerged that shows a possible re-run of the shocking incident in national capital on the eve of the new year.
According to reports, a group of drunk men harassed a young woman who was on a bike on New Year's eve in Mukherjee Nagar area of Delhi. The gang even attacked policemen who stopped them from doing the offence.
Reports suggest that some women police personnel were injured in the incident.
The mob also damaged police property, including a first response vehicle. The mob also later vandalised the police chowki in the vicinity.
“We were standing at the barricade when we saw two people including a woman coming on a bike. There were some 200 drunk men around and they tried to stop the bike and tried grabbing the girl. We intervened and helped the girl get away. We caught two men too,” Anil Kaushik, a constable, said.
The crowd resorted to stone-pelting after seeing police action, he said.
The victim woman is yet to approach the police, reports said, adding that some of the accused men have been identified.
Reacting to the incident, former Delhi minister and Congress leader Kiran Walia lashed out the government for being insensitive towards security of women.
"It seems nobody has fear of law,” Walia said.
The incident comes in the backdrop of Bengaluru molestation case where a young woman was being groped and molested in a deserted lane of Kammanahalli area in the eastern part of the city on December 31 night.
