Delhi woke up to a rainy and thunderous morning on Tuesday. Heavy rains accompanied with lightning brought relief from humid weather. However, water-logging was reported from several areas adding to the woes of morning commuters. Gurugram was the worst affected as the rush hour traffic was thrown out of gear. Long traffic jams were witnessed on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and in areas such as Sohna Road, Subhash Chowk. Traffic came to a standstill in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan, RK Puram, Punjabi Bagh, Narela and Dwarka too.
Areas around Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Teen Murti Bhavan and RK Puram among others witnessed heavy rains and lightning in the morning.
Several schools have announced holiday today due to water-logging and bad weather.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued advisory. "Waterlogging reported at Inderlok Chowk Towards Zakhira near underpass. Kindly avoid the stretch," Delhi Traffic Police tweeted.
Traffic movement on the Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai highway was severely hit due to waterlogging, Assistant Commissioner of Police Heera Singh said.
"Our team is trying to make the traffic movement smoother," he added.
Residents shared photos of waterlogged roads and information about weather in the area on the social media. Power cuts were also reported at many places.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan, Goa, Telangana and Coastal Karnataka on Tuesday.
