Delhi High court on Thursday issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to Arvind Kejriwal's Delhi Government against the policy that excludes non-Delhi residents from taking healthcare services at Guru Teg Bhadur (GTB) hospital.
The 80% reservation for Delhi resident in GTB hospital was implemented in the hospital from October 1 on a pilot basis.
The High Court seeks stay on the circular. Rajendra Menon, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, criticized Ramesh Singh, who supported Delhi Government. Chief Justice questioned Ramesh Singh's decision of issuing the circular "which deprives people of their right to life under articles 14,19,21 of the Indian constitution," news agency ANI reported.
"If other states also start doing it, there would be chaos in the country. Take it back or we would stay it. It cannot be allowed to stay even for a moment," Chief Justice told the lawyer, as quoted by ANI.
The policy implemented by Delhi Government is "shocking' barbaric, and against humanity and it is liable to be stayed by the court," says Advocate Ashok Agarwal, appearing for the petitioner, to the court as quoted by ANI.
Next hearing for the PIL is on October 8 and the government has been given three days time by court to file a reply for the same.
