New Delhi: Apprehended Director General of Corporate Affairs B K Bansal’s wife and daughter were today found dead at their residence in Madhu Vihar in east Delhi.

Bansal’s wife Satyabala and daughter Neha (27) were found hanging in their flat, police said.

The incident comes just days after Bansal, an additional secretary ranked official in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was arrested by CBI sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9 lakh.

The police found a suicide note that indicates that the family was stressed because of the arrest of Bansal and subsequent raids by the CBI in connection with the alleged bribery case. However, the suicide note has not been verified yet, police said.

Meanwhile, trying to wash its hand off the possible allegations of harrasment, the CBI said, "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident. It maybe mentioned here that both the deceased were neither accused nor questioned or summoned in the ongoing investigation. The matter is being looked into by the local police."

As per police sources, neighbours too said that the family was worried over the repeated raids at their residence as part of investigations.

The matter came to light when the maid, who has been working at the house for 4-5 months, repeatedly rang the door bell but got no response.

She then told the society guard about the matter, who went to the society office and the police was informed.

Bansal, along with a private person Vishwadeep Bansal, were nabbed from a hotel on Saturday while bribe was allegedly being exchanged for showing favours to a private firm, CBI sources said.

The sources said the duo have been detained and might soon be arrested once formalities are over.

They said Rs 54 lakh were recovered during searches at six locations in connection with the case.

Bansal, Senior Administrative Grade officer of Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS) was promoted to the post of Director General of Corporate Affairs (DGCA) last year.

More details are awaited
