Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking incident of alleged humiliation, a Dalit woman in Karnataka was allegedly labelled a ‘call girl’ when she visited the residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah last Tuesday to seek help in a domestic issue.
The incident occurred when Savitha, a mother of two, had gone to attend the CM’s monthly public grievance meeting so seek his help. However, not only was she barred from entering the CM’s residence, she was also allegedly humiliated by his security officials.
“They took offence... bundled me into a jeep and took me to the police high grounds. They humiliated me and called me a callgirl. It was extremely embarrassing... it happened in front of everyone,” the women said while narrating the incident to the media.
“I was just seeking my rights. I never knew that I would have to face such a situation in my life,” she added.
The woman was allegedly arrested and kept for a long time but later released on her husband’s intervention.
The Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, however, has rejected the allegations levelled by the woman and said that the arrest was made only because she was trying to commit suicide outside the CM’s residence.
Meanwhile, former CM H D Kumaraswamy sought a detailed investigation into the incident and said, “This is disgusting ...on one side Siddaramaiah claims to be a leader of the Dalits and the oppressed classes and on another, his staff is stooping to this level. They humiliated a Dalit woman.”
“The law and order situation has worsened in the state and Siddaramaiah can't remain in denial, he should face the reality,” he further added.
