Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday announced that nearly 3.5 lakh contractual teachers in the state will get their wages hiked after the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.
"Some people are spreading rumours that the contractual teachers are not entitled to availing wage hike after implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. This is wrong and they will get benefits of the pay commission," Kumar said.
The announcement was made after angry teachers had announced that they would go on strike if denied the benefits of the new pay commission.
Earlier, it was reported that contractual teachers are not entitled for availing wage hike after implementation of 7th Pay Commission.
Any such decision will deprive benefits to some 400,000 teachers who were appointed on contractual basis in between 2006 and 2015 by the Nitish Kumar government.
The Bihar government had in December last year paved the way for providing benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to the state officials and pensioners by announcing the setting up of a fitment committee for the purpose.
The three-member fitment committee is headed by retired bureaucrat and former state Chief Secretary GS Kang while Secretaries of Finance and Rural Works Department Rahul Singh and Vinay Kumar respectively are the members.
The committee has been given three-moth time to submit its report.
