Congress leader Subodh Saoji has added to the huge controversy that erupted following Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam's "would abduct the girl a boy has liked" remark. Saoji has announced Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone who "cuts off the tongue" of Kadam.
"I am announcing a Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone who comes forward and cuts off his tongue. I strongly condemn him saying girls should be abducted," a video shows Saoji as saying during an event in Buldhana district.
Kadam had told youngsters at a Dahi Handi event in suburban Ghatkopar on Monday that he would "abduct" a girl they like even if she rejects their proposal.
The Maharashtra State Commission for Women had issued a notice to Kadam over his remark, seeking his reply.
Facing criticism from all quarters, Ram Kadam, who represents Ghatkopar in Maharashtra Assembly, issued a public apology on Wednesday (September 5).
"A part of my address during a Janmashtami event is being spread as a video. I am not going into the details, as my respect for mothers and sisters is most important for me. Without any further clarification, I humbly apologise for what I said," Kadam said in a video message he shared on Twitter.
