The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday announced the dates for Civil Services Mains Examination, 2017. The written examinations will be conducted from October 28 (Saturday) to November 3 (Friday). The exams will be held in two sessions - forenoon session from 9 AM to 12 PM and afternoon session from 2 PM to 5 PM, a notification on the UPSC website upsc.gov.in said.
Candidates who passed the preliminary exam are qualified to appear in the Civil Services (Mains) Examination. The results for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2017, held on June 18, were declared on July 27.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages preliminary, main and interview to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
The UPSC will fulfil approximately 980 vacancies through the examination.
