Four Chhattisgarh Police officials were martyred and seven others were injured in an encounter with Maoists in Narayanpur district today.
According to media reports, the deceased officials include two sub-inspectors and two constables. All were from the District Reserve Guard, a force created primarily to fight Naxals.
The gunfight took place inside Abhujmaad – a hilly forest area in the district. The exchange of fire lasted over an hour.
Media reports say that Naxals also suffered heavy casualties in the gun battle.
All injured officials were evacuated via a chopper and have been sent to Ramakrishna Care Hospital in Raipur.
In another incident, an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Bijapur, leaving two jawans injured.
