At least 1100 kg of suspected dog meat was recovered in a decomposed state by food safety officials at Chennai's Egmore Railway Station.
According to a Tamil website, RPF personnel raised suspicion when they smelt a stink from parcels kept on platform number 5, following which they stopped a few men who were about to carry those parcels away. The men immediately escaped the spot, abandoning the parcels.
Later the officials of a special team led by Dr R Kathiravan of Tamil Nadu food safety department, Chennai division, opened the parcels and found suspected dog meat.
The said samples were sent to Madras Veterinary College for testing if they were actually dog meat.
